Wednesday October 13th (Retirement 4th year anniversary)

Tillamook
This day was a lovely day, although we spent a great time inside a humongous hanger at the Tillamook Air Museum. The museum is in a hanger which was built in 1943 and housed 8 blimps each measuring 252 ft long. There were 2 Blimp hangers built at Tillamook, unfortunately won was destroyed by fire in 1992 when it was being used to store hay. The dimensions of the hanger are 1072 ft long, 192 ft high and 296 ft wide. It is breathtaking the size of it, and it was constructed mainly with wood from local lumber.
In the museum there are host of aircraft, old civilian planes and many military aircraft from the 2nd World War era. Also housed there are a couple of the enemy’s fighter and training planes. There are a lot of good displays, just a great place to go.
Our next stop was at Munson Falls a short way south of Tillamook, you drive off the main road a couple of miles into a rain forest and then have a ¼ mile walk along a nice trail to the falls. The moss covered trees along the trail were very interesting; the heavy moss is an indication of a lot of rain in the region.
There are several quilt patterns painted on barns near Tillamook so we followed the quilt trail from barn to barn admiring the quilts.
