Monday October 4th (A drive along the Fraser River Valley)

Brookside to Hicks Lake Provincial Campground
160 miles
The first question is where the heck is Hicks Lake Campground, well we didn’t know where it was before we got here. We left Brookside with the desire to camp at Harrison Hot Springs, why Harrison Hot Springs, well I thought it may have been similar to Liard Hot  Springs, the only thing they have similar is the word Hot Springs behind the names. Harrison is a bustling tourism Mecca. The hot springs are on the shores of a large lake, and are very commercial. There are several campgrounds there, which one to go to we didn’t have a clue, so we asked a couple walking their dog, if they could recommend any of the camp grounds, there is a nice one about 15 minutes out of town. So we followed the lake shore for about 30 minutes before we turned off into Sasquatch (Big Foot) Park. Drove a bumpy rough road for another 20 minutes and there we were at a beautiful secluded campground. Found a site overlooking the lake, it was not too difficult to find a slot, as there were only 3 other campers in the park which had 70 camping spots.

Now back to the drive over here, we followed the Thompson River valley to the confluence of the Fraser River. The Thompson River is a lovely clear water river the type we don’t see in Alaska. We parallel the Fraser River to Hope, now the Fraser River was very brown looking river, did not look anywhere near as appealing to float as the Thompson.
